Sarah
Jacobsen
Community Outreach Director
Sarah Jacobsen’s career follows two paths, that of a dancer and an educator. She trained in the renowned Virginia Tanner program at the University of Utah and toured with their advanced performing group for 10 years. Jacobsen continued dancing in the U of U’s BFA program, later expanding her studies into education. She studied and performed with professional modern dance companies Limon (west), Repertory Dance Theatre, Ririe-Woodbury Dance Company, also Ballet West, Brigham Young University, Utah State University, and participated in the American College Dance Festival as a member of University Dance Theatre. While in the San Francisco Bay area Sarah danced for Gary Masters and Fred Matthews (Limon company), and Janice Garrett (Mills College) in addition to other local choreographers.
Sarah Jacobsen has experience as an educator in both arts and academic subjects. She received a full ride scholarship to study special education, becoming a certified Slingerland instructor (multi-sensory literacy), studying ASL, and working in both public and private schools as an educator for special needs students. Jacobsen also taught pre-school at Stanford University and dance at Garfield Charter School for Arts and Technology in Redwood City. She completed degrees in Dance and Creative Arts Education with honors.
With her specialty in children’s pedagogue, Jacobsen taught at San Jose State University in the School of Music and Dance. Her course for teachers pursuing a K-8 credential focused on integrating music and dance into academic curriculum. She worked extensively with the California Arts Council as an artist-in-residence, as well as performing, teaching, and choreographing in Maine and Utah. Locally “Ms. Sarah” worked with Ballet Bellevue for 3 years before joining EBT. She is grateful for the support of her husband Matthew and their 4 children.
