Music Can Dance workshops

Professional mentors guided exploration between advanced youth musicians and dancers during two different years of workshops. EBA dancers took a choreography class and were assigned a piece of music recorded by a youth musician. Independently, dancers improved choreography skills while musicians honed performance skills. Then dancers and musicians were brought together for a workshop with professional dancers and musicians to explain how these two artforms interact in real life. They used strengths from each discipline to help feel, count and perform waltz, polka, mazurka, etc. After one-on-one rehearsals between assigned dancers/musicians, the workshops concluded with an informal live evening performance as dancers shared their original choreography accompanied by their very own live musicians. Many student musicians went on to perform in EBT’s The Jewel Heart.
